The Catholic Church of the Taxiarhon Monastery, located at a short distance from Kato Tritos in the municipality of Geras, is the only monastic complex of Byzantine times that is preserved in Lesbos. It is built on a plateau at the top of an olive tree-covered hill with an excellent view towards the Gulf of Gera. The central space of the monastery, the Catholic Church, is preserved, while around it there are the ruins of the cells and auxiliary spaces. The construction of the church is placed in the late Byzantine period. Local, unprocessed stones of various sizes have been used for its masonry. Inside, two layers of wall paintings are preserved. Most of the wall paintings date back to the 17th century."
